How Leaving T Mobile Made Me Love Them More

T-Mobile Mytouch 4GWhen my wife had* to have an iPhone (five months before her two-year contract with T-Mobile was up) we were prepared to pay the $200 early termination fee. When, slightly shamefaced, I had reason to contact T Mobile for the first time since her leaving our family plan, I was shocked at the offer they made and that I accepted.

T Mobile Waived Early Termination Fee

We’d purchased a Garmin nüvi 255W Navigator unit which we ended up returning when we decided to upgrade our phone instead. So, we called T Mobile to see about getting upgraded to the MyTouch 4G (currently only $39 with new contract – it’s a great phone, we’ll blog on it and iPhone soon now that we have one of each) and they told me if we added a second line to my account, they would waive the $200 early termination fee!

Added Second Line, Kept Same Monthly Bill (Fewer Minutes Shared)

We didn’t need a second line but it turned out that we were able to add the second line without increasing our monthly bill. This was accomplished by going from a 1,000 minute plan (with unlimited data and text) to a 750 minute a month plan and keeping the unlimited text and data on one line. For us the 250 fewer minutes still met our needs.

And Threw in a New Samsung Gravity T669

When we called to close the deal, the rep even threw in a samsung Gravity T phone. Free. All because we dropped a line to get an Apple iPhone. (Click here to see T Mobile plans that offer the Gravity T phone for free or view the handset-only for sale at Wireless Emporium.)

We’ve been with T-Mobile since they were Voicestream back in Colorado in 2001 and we have a business account for Communication Headquarters and we were sad to let even one line go. The fact that they were able to make a $200 early termination fee go away makes us very happy to have remained with them for ten years.
