Ever wonder what price a used cell phone would
fetch from a used electronics recycler compared to eBay?
We took a used-in-good-condition Blackberry Bold 9700 (with original power/USB cable) and compared its value on an eBay auction versus selling it directly to Gazelle.
Recent eBay auction sales range from $160 to $289. There were also listings in the $199 range that ended without attracting any buyers. (To see the prices of what something sold for on eBay click the “Advanced” link next to the search box then check the “Completed Listings” box.)
Results: Gazelle offered us $145 cash. And since Gazelle supplies the postage paid envelope, guarantees the the price for 30 days, doesn’t charge any fees and won’t complain about the condition or leave negative feedback, we’ll take that offer.
Given the fast decline of used cell phone prices, the fickle nature of eBay buyers, and the fact that a one-week auction could end at the minimum bid amount, or without a selling at all, we’re going to take the sure-thing fast money. Ka-ching!
Gazelle is a Boston-based company and was ranked #24 Inc. Magazine’s annual 500 Fast Growing Companies.
