Susan asks…
Do I need an international sim card?
I am going to Costa Rica next week, and I was wondering if I need an international sim card to use my phone (AT&T). If so, what will be the costs of calling/texting within Costa Rica (i.e. to others with me who are also using international sim cards) and back to the continental US?
My current plan includes unlimited texting. Will I be charged extra if I text in Costa Rica?
Also, what is the purpose of an international sim card? Will it nullify these charges? Will it reduce them?
Pete answers:
You don’t need an international SIM to work in Costa Rica. You will be able to connect to their cellular network towers, but they’ll know you are an AT&T user and charge you for each text, MB used and calling minutes.
On the AT&T site the charges for each text message is $0.50, and $2.89 per minute when calling. It is pretty pricey!

Robert asks…
Trying to find an International SIM card with unlimited free incoming and outgoing SMS?
I am traveling to Italy this summer and I would like to send SMS back home to friends and the girlfriend. Is there any international providers that include free SMS Outgoing/Incoming? Most charge 0.4 Euros per msg out but free coming in.
I know that they will be making something else more expensive to compensate for the free outgoing SMS but that’s fine!
Pete answers:
Orange camel package?
Calls and Texts are all cheap but neither is free.
