Best way to make calls while on vacation in Europe? (international and local)?

I’m going on vacation in Europe for 2 weeks (England, France, Italy) and want to beable to keep in contact with the group I’m going with.

What is the the cheapest solution to use my AT@T BlackJack II to be able to make calls locally and calls back home in the US?

I heard I can buy a sim card there, but will it work in all 3 countries?

For a two week total time it is not worth buying an local sim.
Each country has a different sim, and while you can use most in other countries, it will be as expensive as using your American phone.
And besides, if you want to call others who have an American phone you will have to pay for international calls all the time, which is very expensive from a prepaid sim card.

Save buying a local sim for when you are in one country for a couple of months.

Best cell phone card – UK visitor to USA on T-mobile?

I have a United Kingdom T-Mobile cell phone that I want to use in the USA when I come over on vacation – I have travelled with this phone before and it costs a fortune to call my USA friends – is there a SIM card I can buy in the USA that will allow me to talk to my USA friends’ cells at USA caller rates, instead of paying international call rates?

Go to Radio Shack and get a Net 10/Tracphone. It’s a pay as you go which you can top up if you need to. I got a stupid amount of minutes and access to the UK in voice and text all for $30 (about £18) and still had 168mins left after a week, despite calling and texting everybody I know in the UK. My daughter who lives in the US is still using the remaining minutes.
