GSM or Unlocked Cell phones?

My local cell phone provider uses GSM, all their phones are unlocked. My question is, when I browse online for a GSM cell phone, some wills say “AT&T GSM phone” Will this still work with my sim?? Or only AT&T sim cards?

My friend has a GSM blackberry through AT&T, I tried putting my sim card in it, but the main screen will just read “Sim not Provisioned”.

If your friend has a blackberry through AT&T, it’s a locked phone, meaning it will only accept AT&T sim cards.

However, your phone is unlocked, so it will accept any sim card (including your friends).

If the phone online says “AT&T GSM phone” that means it is locked to AT&Ts network and will not accept your sim card (unless you unlock it, the method depends on what phone it is, and may or may not be illegal depending on where you live).

If you buy an unlocked phone (which is usually more expensive as AT&T/T-Mobile will sell the phone at a loss and make up the amount on the contract you sign) it will be able to use any sim card.

What’s the best sofware/hardware a man can get to flashing and unlocking GSM cell phones? what’s the name? and how much wil it cost me?
I’m looking for sowfware/hardware to flash and unlock phones. I heard that good ones starting price is around $500 or more and I need one of those to unlock my cell phones.

GSM phones cannot be flashed. Some CDMA phones can be flashed to some providers.
